Storyteller & Media Manager
The Relationship: Part-Time Contractor
Working With: Executive Administrative Assistant
Our Work
Rooted Ways is dedicated to place-based education, Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK), and the restoration of ancestral lifeways. We believe in the power of community gatherings, workshops, and stewardship that honors the wisdom of the land and its first people. We are looking for a creative storyteller to help us carry the heartbeat of Rooted Ways to the digital world. We need someone who can document the beauty of our workshops through a camera lens and share our journey across social media with respect, clarity, and heart.
This role begins with a focus on our immediate needs, keeping our community informed and inspired, and will grow into helping us shape our long-term branding and digital home. How You’ll Contribute:
Sharing the Word
Care for our presence on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn with 3 thoughtful posts each week.
Focus our stories on TEK, plant spotlights (such as hazel, cedar, and maple), and the quiet, steady progress of our restoration work.
Craft our monthly newsletter to ensure our community knows what is happening and how they can get involved.
Holding the Vision
Join us in the field for our TEK Gathering Weekends throughout the year and other key events to capture professional photography and short-form video.
Maintain a digital library of these images and videos, ensuring they are cared for and ready for use in our grants, reports, and future projects.
Working Together
Work hand-in-hand with our Executive Administrative Assistant to highlight upcoming workshops and share news of grant announcements.
As we grow, you will help us build out our media kits and professional branding, eventually leading the way on refreshing our website.
Our Principles
At Rooted Ways, the way we speak about things matters. You will be a steward of our values by:
Always using the term “belongings” rather than “items” or “artifacts.”
Highlighting our commitment to the land without revealing sensitive or precise site locations.
The Skills You Bring
Cultural Grounding: A deep respect for Indigenous cultural protocols and TEK. You understand that some stories are for sharing and others are for holding close.
The Tools: You have your own professional camera gear and the skills to edit photos and videos (Adobe, Canva, etc.) so they reflect the quality of our work.
A Heart for Writing: You can write in a way that feels human, engaging, and deeply respectful of the lifeways we represent.
Accountability: You are organized and reliable, able to manage a content calendar and stay in step with our administrative team.
The Details
Monthly Retainer based on our agreed-upon scope.
Event Day Compensation for full-day field documentation and photography.
Travel: We reimburse mileage for travel to gathering sites at the 2026 IRS rate.
Growth & Support: There is a possibility for a small stipend to assist with equipment needs (including camera gear) and/or relevant professional training that align with our mission.
